as melody laments the loss of a dollhouse, i am holding "red, black, blue, apple" from diving into the mountain goat exhibit. holding on to my dear little friend is exhausting as we all tromp through the brookfield zoo. he stops at the crocodile & i am pleased to stand still for more than three seconds. "jen!" lynn finally shouts. i snap out of my wilderness daze & we retreat to the big yellow buses exhausted. safe.

my evanston girls are dissipating soon. some have internships for NPR & chicago film festivals while others will remain no more than a few blocks from ben's house. "rumor has it you were at the unicorn," julia says, smiling as she takes a seat next to us. i am realizing that this may be one of the last times i will sit with these awe-inspiring, beautiful women all together. later after fresh cookies & burritos, a few of us head west with marius for a verdict appearance. across the smokey bar and between the forty-something lovers that tango only to their own rythem, ben's band opens with an REM song. "this is awesome," marius laughs & julia & i split a neapoliton. the verdict never disappoints.

best of luck to you all graduating this year! love jen
