Perhaps it is the bus stop romance. Or the sweaty heat of power struggles & high temperatures. Or high school play ground memories. You know the scenerio: you go with a friend at midnight to swing & realize people are making out in the tube slide.
Perhaps it is one of these reasons that turgid has become our favorite vocabulary word of the week. We giggle and laugh and use it recklessly. And when Jane backs off the bus, slightly cowering from a potential love interest (He has a tatoo! she reminds us. She is smitten), we are unafraid to call her pusillanimous. Melody, Jane, & I sit together in our classroom, scheming romantic ways to catch the bus driver's attention. Leave love notes on the sticky green vinyl seats, treats on the dashboard, or send our student with little forget-me-nots around his neck to be read while entering the bus. We think we are brilliant.
"That's okay, girls. I will go back to my romance novels. Where words like turgid run rampid," Jane says. And we giggle.
