"That's my favorite part of the jive: when they hold hands and kick." -Elizabeth on our "So You Think You Can Dance" experience. And I just really want to hold hands with someone and kick until I am exhausted. And then swing our hands back and forth and kick some more. Elizabeth left the Evanston area this week & I am at a complete loss of who will join me on Saturday mornings for the farmer's market. Or lounge with me by the lake afterward with a basket of blackberries. Or make me a martini on a swanky Friday evening. Or find excitement in a crafty afternoon of making junk into treasure. Or edit my dense spill of fiction works.

Megan, my dearest Minnesotan, and I had a conversation a few weeks ago about how we long for the casual company of a good friend. To just pop in and help plant a few plants & sit with lemonade on the patio for an hour or two. I've always been rather shy & although I have met and spent time with many lovely people, the transition back to Evanston has been difficult. I will admit that my neighborhood in it's amazing neighbor-ness has been very helpful. Yesterday I was reading about the shoulder complex on the front lawn (a homework assignment given to me by my Jenny-proclaimed mentor) and several people stopped by and literally sat down next to me for a few minutes to chat about music or house projects. I am a girl who thrives on community & routine. I fight this in my longing to be spontaneous and wild but when it comes down to it, I need repetition and some level of predictability. To recognize faces in a coffee shop, at work, or exercise class. Why is re-settling so difficult? Even after a year?

Good things:
A friend asked me last week why we all don't appreciate cheesy love songs more. And I have to say, if anyone would love to bring back cheesy love songs, it would be me. Let's start with Phil Collins.
No Air- Chris Brown & Jordin Sparks

"She's an easy lover. She'll get a hold on you believe it! She's like no other; before you know it you'll be on your knees"

"Take a look at me now, there's just an empty space. There's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face"

Oh, I am so downloading Phil Collins from iTunes this minute!
