i dreamt i met you at dartmouth.
& having never been there
& thus dreaming with inaccuracy
a few minutes before midnight i arrived at a train station built as a bridge between the alps.
you were sitting on your blue suitcase contemplating an escape from this hell. but we were snowed in & we resorted to watching planes circle the snowdrifts that emitted pale blues & purples.
and if this planet were to ever blow up
would it combust naturally or with the assistance of albert einstein's award winning discovery?
i understood why you were leaving. you waited impatiently for the storm to pass, shifting your body weight left to right and twirling your curls.
nothing is in control here.
& your brother sat smoking cigarettes near a drafty postcard palace.
i thought i would find you at vanderbilt, i told him as he played nervously with his glasses.
im here to save my sister, he said. & i think that is when the sky turned orange & red. planes disappeared into the ground and the bridge began to shake. you stood up & picked up your blue suitcase & i knew i you were never going to leave dartmouth again.
