many of my coworkers have sons or daughters graduating from high school this june. i have enjoyed hearing about their graduation countdown starting with senioritis and moving through college visits, prom, & finally graduation parties. i think i am trying to erase and recreate my own final months of senior year and replace it with the bits and pieces i am hearing around me today- making them pieces that i have absolutly no emotional attatchment to and cant even remember. i dont think i could return to age eighteen ever. (not to be discouraging to any eighteen year olds out there: i wish you stregnth & fun!) but as melissa and i stood in the family video wednesday night, i remembered us standing in a similar area five years ago. melissa started crying and i couldnt stop her so i started to cry too. i would be leaving the next day. nothing would be the same. i would love to tear out that small section of emotional memory- june 1999 through february 2000- disregarding my july trip up north & the fun i had in 617 with a crazy and energetic girl i know now as my "womb sister". the rest of the ride was just an emotion that moved like a train wreck in slow motion. i am so happy to find myself, years later, in the same video store with a girl who is still one of my closest friends renting a season that we cant get enough of.
