welcome to the new apartment
we painted the walls a robin's egg blue to the tune of my new neighbor singing whole heartedly with the radio. my new apartment seems to be wedged between a faux-opera singer & an aspiring actor. friday night ben & i returned to my studio with bags and bags of target purchases and we listened to a violent fight climax between a man and woman. i was concerned at first until we realized the man was reciting sentances and prose similar to the moor and then we were amused by their dramatic act, soaking in the possible characteristics of this new building flooding with "talent". i compared and contrasted my beloved 1940 sherman with this historically-built-and-thus-potential-lead-painted building & came up love-love. the actual studio is quite beautiful with wood rather than linoleum floors and an actual separate sleeping area for my bed. plus i can paint & i did. as we passed through the hallway i could hear buzzes of laughter and chatter in each room. there was truly an energy that law, kellogg, and medill graduate students could not release in 1940. but i miss the welcoming grandma wallpaper that overwhelmed everyone as they passed through the entrance and stairway of 1940 sherman. and, of course, there is no elizabeth, marius, candace, or even booger to randomly greet and meet near the mailboxes. i have settled one half of my things in st paul but my mental state is still here with loved ones among illinois state licence plates.
